This last Saturday, we brought 21 kids to the Clovis Invitational in Fresno. All the best teams in the state congregate here - to practice this course, where the state championships are held in November. It's so motivating for athletes to see these teams, compete against them, and dream of one day being like them. The energy and intensity of the race also brings out our athletes best performances.
Over this 3.1 course, with rolling hills in hot weather - the team showed some outstanding personal improvements:
Aidan Keener: 7:03 per mile - his race (at the beginning of this year) was 7:46 per mile
Andy Taylor: 5:55 per mile - his race pace last year was 6:57 per mile
Jaret Altamirano-Sanchez: 6:05 per mile - his race pace last year was 7:14 per mile
Dominic Marquez: 5:33 per mile - his race pace last year was 6:16 per mile.
Lillian Fahsel: 7:06 per mile - her previous time on this course was 7:33 per mile.
Melissa Marchasin: 7:54 per mile - her race pace from last year was 8:50 per mile.
At the 3 mile Crystal Springs Cross Country Course, Lillian Fahsel ran 21:26 and Dominic Marquez Jr. ran 17:07 to advance to the Div II CCS Championships on Saturday. Dominic was also named All-League for his efforts. The girls Championship race is Saturday at 11:10am followed by the boys at 11:45am
